Smash burger tacos
Jump to recipe
Burgers are the ubiquitous summer food for back yard get-togethers and BBQs. I was instantly hooked the moment I saw these and wanted to try.
This is hybrid taco/burger and brings the best of both to the party. They’re quick to cook and you can add your favourite burger toppings.
My version is a nod to the Big Mac and takes a lot of the ingredients to make a familiar burger taste in taco form.
You will need a burger press or something similar to create the smash burger. I use a griddle, but a large frying could also work.
Smash burger tacos
Servings: 4 (makes 12 tacos)
Ingredients
500g ground beef (I prefer extra lean, but any will work)
12 corn tortillas
1 thinly sliced jalapeno - optional, but I love the flavour on a burger.
6 cheese slices, half per taco
1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
1/2 cup finely diced onions
1/2 cup finely diced pickles
4 tbs burger sauce of your choice - or mustard/mayo/ketchup if you prefer
salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat your griddle or pan.
Portion the ground beef into 12 equal amount and roll each into a ball.
Place a ball of meat onto your griddle and top with a corn tortilla.
Smash down the burger and tortilla with your burger press until the burger patty is thin and spreads out over the tortilla.
Cook for a few minutes until the burger is fully cooked through - it’s very thin so only takes a short time.
Flip over onto the tortilla side and add 1/2 a slice of cheese.
Let sit on the griddle until the cheese starts to melt - just a couple of minutes.
Remove to a plate and add your choice of toppings.
Serve immediately.
